THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS A PERSONAL STATEMENT SHOULD ANSWER

THE PURPOSE OF A STUDENT’S ESSAY IS TO BREATHE SOME LIFE INTO THEIR APPLICATION.

It adds color and interest to an otherwise lifeless document. An Applicant is writing the story that only they can tell. If they had a 10-minute interview with the admissions team, what would the student want the team to know about them that is not in other parts of their application? Their Personal Statement should make them come to life for the selection committee because it answers the following questions:

“Who am I?” (The student’s background, personality, identity.)

“Why am I here?” (The student’s purpose, journey, how they will make a difference)

“What is unique about me?” (Their values, interests, motivations, and skills)

“What matters to me?” (Their passions, goals, and inspirations)
